The Trust baby pelham has smaller shanks than the regular pelham, which gives the baby pelham a less sharp effect. The larger the shanks, the sharper the bit works on the horse's mouth. The mouthpiece is made of Inno Sense, this is a hard plastic material which means that the mouthpiece has a softer effect than a sweet iron pelham. The bit has a medium tongue arch which mainly puts pressure on the bars and where the tongue lies free.

The pelham bit

The Pelham bit combines the action of a snaffle and a double-butted bit. The Pelham has a leverage effect just like a double-butted bit, making it a sharply acting bit. That is why it is an ideal bit for strong horses or for horses whose mouth is too small for a double-butted bit. The bit can be ridden with one or two reins. The curb chain creates a gag effect; the tighter the curb chain, the stronger the effect of the bit. The Pelham bit is not suitable for inexperienced riders.
