The Sweet iron single jointed D-snaffle has, as the name suggests, rings in the shape of a D. This gives the bit more pressure on the cheeks, making the horse more agile. This D-snaffle has a single jointed mouthpiece. This leaves the tongue more free than with a double jointed mouthpiece. A single jointed mouthpiece mainly works on the bars and the side of the tongue.
The D-trens:
The D-snaffle has, as the name suggests, rings in the shape of a D. This puts more pressure on the cheeks, making the horse more agile. The D shape of the rings also ensures that the bit cannot be easily pulled through the mouth. This is why the bit is often used when training young horses. The D-snaffle is a sharper bit than a water or eggbutt snaffle, but it is stable and quiet in the mouth.
The sweet iron bits from Trust:
Sweet iron develops surface rust through contact with (air) moisture that tastes sweet and naturally stimulates saliva production. This will cause the horse to foam more, which ensures better acceptance of the bit. This rusting process (oxidation) changes the blue colour of the TRUST bits to brown-grey. If a sweet iron bit is not used temporarily, an orange-brown rust layer may form on the mouthpiece. This can easily be removed by wiping the bit with a damp cloth.
